  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Portuguese superstar Ronaldo has previously taken in two spells at Manchester United. The first of those saw him claim Premier League and Champions League titles, along with the first of his five Ballons d’Or. A second stint in England ended in acrimonious fashion when his contract was torn up.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ronaldo’s friend, Ruben Amorim, is now calling the shots at Old Trafford – leading to talk of a potential reunion. The all-time great is also seeing his record-breaking contract in the Saudi Pro League at Al-Nassr run down, with those terms set to expire in the summer of 2025.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Speculation regarding Ronaldo’s future plans continues to rage, with the 39-year-old giving no thought to retirement just yet – as he chases down an ambitious 1,000 career goals target. A retracing of steps to England cannot be ruled out, while there has also been talk of CR7 ending up in Wales alongside Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham.

    WHAT SAHA SAID

Quizzed by Casino Utan Spelpaus on what happens next, Ronaldo’s former United team-mate Saha said: “I don't know if Ronaldo will come back to the Premier League, because there’s nothing that you can predict with this guy, so it’s hard to know for sure. Who would have said he would have scored that amount of goals by now? This guy is chasing 1000. I don't know what to say.

“Ronaldo has eyes on the stuff that normal people don't have. I would still think that whatever he's got in his mind, he's capable of doing it because he's obsessed. Perhaps a chairman wants to take a chance on him. There are still a lot of things that Ronaldo can do – he’s ageing like a fine wine.”

  • WHAT NEXT?

The expectation is that Ronaldo will agree an extended stay in the Middle East, bringing the rumours regarding a fresh start elsewhere to a close. He has, however, seen a move into coaching mooted once the day comes to hang up his boots, and that career path could lead back to the Premier League.
