Christopher Nkunku to stay at Chelsea? Why swap deal with Bayern Munich for teenager Mathys Tel could be postponed as transfer hits snag

Nkunku has been closely linked with a move back to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich reportedly keen on signing the player. The French attacker's lack of game time at Stamford Bridge has prompted him to consider his future. The Blues, in turn, were planning to freshen up their attacking ranks, with teenage frontman and Bayern star Tel a player in their sights.

Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that the west London side are willing to sell Nkunku, who is 'unhappy' with his role at Stamford Bridge but will demand a whopping £65 million ($79m) transfer fee. Per Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, the move might not go through in January primarily due to Chelsea's massive asking price. Tel is also likely to stay put at Allianz Arena which could postpone the Frenchman's transfer until at least the summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the German and the English clubs have not communicated in the past 48 hours and the French forward's departure completely depends on whether Tel is willing to move the other way.

The 27-year-old, who has clocked just 390 minutes on the pitch in the Premier League this season, will hope to make it to Enzo Maresca's starting line-up on Monday as the Blues host Wolves for a crucial league clash.
