  • WHAT HAPPENED?

While Vincent Kompany's men aim to continue their dominant run following a triumphant Bundesliga campaign, tension is quietly brewing within the club’s administrative ranks — and it stems from travel arrangements, not tactics or injuries.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In what should have been a celebratory transition from league to global competition, staff morale has taken a hit after learning that several employees will not be accompanying the team across the Atlantic due to newly enforced budget restrictions. Surprisingly, this decision does not apply to players’ families, who will be flown in at the club's expense.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

According to reports aired in the latest BILD podcast hosted by journalists Christian Falk and Tobias Altschaffl, Bayern have decided to bear the cost of players' families but not all of their staff. One of the most notable attendees will be Katie Goodland, wife of England captain Kane, whose weekly earnings are estimated at £400,000.

Falk revealed: "The players' families have been invited."

Altschaffl added: "There's a whole week where families are allowed to come. I think after a stressful season, with a lot of hectic schedules, they're allowed to have their families around them."

Falk then said: "You have to say, a few employees were annoyed. They're cutting costs everywhere, so only a small group of employees is allowed to go over, but the families are."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The root of the discontent lies in a broader financial strategy led by Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, who has ordered a 20 per cent reduction in overall squad-related expenditures. The directive, aimed at streamlining operations, has hit operational staff the hardest, particularly those in middle management, matchday operations, and administrative roles.

Those excluded from the Club World Cup trip include employees who have been instrumental in supporting the team throughout a demanding season. Many of them now find themselves watching from home, while players’ families, not essential to football operations, make the journey Stateside.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN?

Despite the off-field distractions, Bayern’s Club World Cup campaign remains a central focus. The German champions begin their American journey on June 15 with a fixture against Auckland City in Cincinnati. They then travel to Miami to take on Argentine side Boca Juniors on June 21, before concluding the group stage in Charlotte against Portuguese champions Benfica on June 24.
