WATCH: Birthday-boy Onyewu scores first goal in over three years

Oguchi Onyewu gave himself a very nice birthday present Saturday evening against D.C. United.

The big defender, celebrating his 35th birthday as the Philadelphia Union traveled to meet their Eastern Conference rival, scored a second-half goal to double his side’s advantage and make it 2-0.

Onyewu managed to get a step on his marker on a Union corner and got his head to the ball, sending it into the corner for the finish.

The goal was the first for Onyewu since Jan. 25, 2014, when he scored for Sheffield Wednesday in an FA Cup match against Rochdale.

The goal also took place at RFK Stadium, the field where Onyewu suffered a severe knee injury in 2009, during the U.S. national team’s final game of World Cup qualifying against Costa Rica.

Onyewu has played seven games, all starts, with the Union this season after signing with the club this past offseason.

The strike helped the Union to a 4-0 win, the club's second victory in as many games after going without a win in their first eight.
