Pollen Ndlanya: Nedbank Cup is the only opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs to restore pride

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Pollen Ndlanya says Amakhosi must apply themselves correctly against Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final match on Sunday.

The encounter is scheduled to be played at the 2010 Fifa World Cup venue, Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

“They have to stick to the way they have been playing lately. I am happy they are scoring goals and winning – they must take it one game at a time,” Ndlanya told Goal.

“We all know Cape Town City is not an easy team to play against. They are doing very well under Benni (McCarthy), but they are beatable,” noted the legend.

Amakhosi are currently enduring a four-year trophy drought and Ndlanya feels that winning the Nedbank Cup will restore the club's pride.

“This is the only opportunity to lift a trophy. They must restore their pride and confidence by reaching the semi-finals and will be a step closer to winning it,” he backed.

“I am sure they want it more than any team in the competition and they must just fight to bypass Benni’s tactics and once they do that, a win will definitely come,” continued Ndlanya.

“It is good to take the game to the people, but we all know Chiefs are at home anywhere in the country. You can even take the game to Athlone Stadium, they will still enjoy massive numbers,” he acknowledged.

“It is true they will have an advantage, however, it’s up to them to fight and show hunger on the field of play. They still have the responsibility to win and beat Cape Town City regardless of how many numbers are on the stands,” warned the former striker.

“They beat City away in the league and lost at the FNB Stadium, but this is a cup game and I know it won’t be easy, but Chiefs must show their quality,” he reacted.

“The guys must apply themselves correctly and I am confident they can win it, but to rely on the supporters will be their biggest mistake,” concluded the 48-year-old.
