Gor Mahia duo to fight for KPL Most Valuable Player Award

Posta Rangers goalkeeper Patrick Matasi will fight for the 2017 Kenyan Premier League Most Valuable Player title with Gor Mahia duo, Meddie Kagere and Lawrence Juma on January 12.

Matasi had a successful season with both club and country, having steered Posta Rangers to a fourth-place finish in the league besides winning the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup with Harambee Stars last December.

Matasi only conceded two goals in regulation time at the regional championship.

The cane-cutter cum football, will, however, have to fend off opposition from Gor Mahia forward, Meddie Kagere and newly acquired K’Ogalo midfielder, Juma, formerly of Nzoia Sugar.

Another goalkeeper, John Oyemba of Kariobangi Sharks also made the cut alongside Michael Madoya of Zoo Kericho.

The nominations were done by the coaches and captains of all the 18 KPL clubs that participated in the 2017 season.

The coaches and captains will meet again at the KPL Headquarters on Friday, 12 January 2018 to finalize the final selection.

This will be followed by the Awards Ceremony later that evening, Friday, 12 January 2018.
