Ghanaian defender Donkor reflects on Inter Milan experience

Ghanaian defender Isaac Donkor is grateful for his time with Italian giants Inter Milan.

After passing through the club's youth ranks, going ahead to make his professional debut against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League in 2012, the 21-year-old ended his affiliation to the Black and Blues last month, joining Serie B outfit Cesena on a three-year-deal.

Limited first team opportunities at San Siro means the Kumasi-born has had to spend the last two seasons out on loan.

"Inter Milan have been an important club for my career and that is where I was groomed by becoming a professional player,'' Donkor told FcInterNews .

''I came to Inter Milan at a very tender age and I was able to fight hard to find my way into the senior side at a point in time after which I had some game time.

"I will always be grateful to Inter Milan for giving me the chance.''

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Cesena, making eight league appearances, it is little surprising that the youngster has chosen to join the Seahorses on a permanent deal.

''I am very proud that Cesena being one of the most prestigious clubs in the Serie B have signed me," said, Donkor.

''Cesena is also one of the top clubs at the lower-tier side that plays competitive football and I am very happy that they have signed me on a permanent deal from Inter Milan,'' he added.

''I thank the President, manager and the coach who have all shown trust in me and have invested their resources to get me. I will repay them on the field of play following their trust in me."

Although he has consistently spoken about his desire to represent the country of his birth, Donkor is yet to play for Ghana at any level.
