Dwamena out, Boakye in, Boye doubtful

Ghana have been dealt a blow ahead of Friday's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo as embattled striker Raphael Dwamena has withdrawn from the squad, the GFA has announced.

The FC Zurich centre-forward was initially expected to touch down in Accra on Thursday but issues surrounding his botched transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion over a failed medical have disrupted the plans.

Following the English Premier League club's announcement of the move rescission on Friday, Dwamena was forced to fly back to his Switzerland base for further checks under Zurich's guide.

And having failed to complete the procedure in time, the former Red Bull Salzburg man has been necessitated to entirely pull out of the double-header against Congo on September 1 and 5.

In his place, Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom has been called up but the late invite means the 24-year-old, scheduled to touch down on Thursday night, will miss Friday's first leg.

There is also an injury worry for the Black Stars as a thigh injury has forced defender John Boye on a travel to Accra for "further tests".

The GFA say the Sivasspor centre-back will not be replaced should he be ruled out of the games.

Portimonese left-back Lumor Agbenyenu, meanwhile, is expected to join the team in Kumasi on Thursday morning after arriving in the country on Wednesday night.

Ghana take Congo in Kumasi on Friday, four days before the return fixture in Brazzaville.

The Black Stars, currently third in Group E, need to pick full points in both games to improve their bleak chances of reaching Russia 2018.
