From Doha to Doha: The four Japanese heroes from 2011 leading their charge at the 2022 World Cup

Japan is one of the most dominant nations in Asian football landscape. Over the years they have produced some iconic players across both men's and women's football. They have enjoyed success at the Asian Cup, winning it a record four times, and have qualified for each of the last seven FIFA World Cups, reaching the knockout stage in the previous edition.

They last won the Asian Cup in 2011, beating Australia in the final which was held in Qatar. 11 years later, Japan return to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup this year. Four players from the winning squad in 2011 are still the part of the roster after more than a decade.

Current captain, Maya Yoshida, was a part of the successful squad at Qatar the last time, along with three other players who are still the part of the current roster.

Before they represent Japan in yet another major tournament, lets take a look at their career over the past decade.
