Marcus Rashford, McCarthy’s protégé, was one of the heroes of the encounter, scoring the winner after playing an influential—if controversial—role in Bruno Fernandes’ 78th-minute equaliser.
While Ten Hag has received the lion’s share of the plaudits among the global media, South African Twitter users have not been slow to heap the praise on McCarthy after yet another Rashford masterclass.
