Vihiga United inflicts a painful defeat on Posta Rangers

Amos Kigadi's lone strike handed Vihiga United a well deserved 1-0 victory over a wasteful Posta Rangers in a Kenyan Premier League match on Saturday.

Kigadi scored then got substituted almost immediately, but Rangers could not recover from the damage he had left behind. The lone goal helped Vihiga United move to 15th on the log. The first leg match between both sides ended in a goalless draw.

Vihiga United were not aggressive in the opening half while Posta Rangers looked poor. The visitors made only one meaningful attack on Rangers’ goal in the opening stanza. Rangers on the hand blew away countless opportunities and they came to pay the prize late into the game.

Kigadi failed to direct his header inside the empty net in the only chance created by the visitors but he made amends late in the second half when he silenced the few Rangers fans at the Kenyatta Stadium with a heavy header after Graduce Ochieng made a costly mistake with his attempted clearance.

On the other side, Dennis Mukaisi blew away a golden chance, even after Danson Kago had done the donkey work with a nice run on the right before cutting in a diagonal cross back to Mukaisi. But the forward floated his effort above the post from three meter-yard, even with the goalkeeper down on the ground.

The victory lifted Vihiga United to 15th on the log while Posta Rangers remained on 11th place.
