Stuart Baxter satisfied with Bafana Bafana preparations ahead of Libya showdown

South Africa national team coach Stuart Baxter has revealed his satisfaction with the team’s preparations thus far.

Bafana Bafana are set to lock horns with Libya on Saturday in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and time has certainly not been on Baxter’s side due to player withdrawals and late call ups.

Nonetheless, Baxter remains positive and while he did admit that the team did look slightly disjointed as they beat AmaZulu 2-0 on Wednesday, he is confident that they would have ironed out their mistakes by the time the game kicks off.

“Sometimes the play was disjointed but you must remember that the players only have five days together, that is the challenge of international football,” Baxter was quoted on Wednesday as saying by Phakaaathi. 

“Sometimes the players don’t know each other, they don’t know their opponents and have to grasp a bit of the game plan, but that is what it is. There was some good too,” he added.

Ahead of the game, much is being said about the Libyan’s typical North African approach, and Baxter has revealed that he will be working on set-pieces and concentrating on tactics in the coming days.

“Tomorrow (Thursday) we will train at the (Moses Mabhida) Stadium and do some set plays in the afternoon,” Baxter said.

“Then the day before (Friday) is a pre-match when we just want to get in some tactical reminders and get into some nice mental space,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the clash is set to take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 15:00. Baxter is likely to have uneasy nights with the venue as the last time Bafana played in Durban they were edged out by Cape Verde.
