Ivory Coast’s Gohou scores as Kairat draw in Europa League qualifiers

Gerard Gohou scored as Kairat were held 1-1 at home by Skenderbeu in the first leg of their Uefa Europa League second qualifying round on Thursday evening.

The 28-year-old gave his side the lead in the ninth minute.

But the Kazakhstan Premier League outfit hope of gaining an advantage heading into next week’s return leg was dashed when defender Yeldos Akhmetov put the ball into his own net, with only 19 minutes left to play.

Nigerian striker, James Adeniyi was also on parade for the visitors but fired blanks.

Both sides will have to negotiate their way into the next stage of Europa League qualifiers on July 20 when they square up at the Skenderbeu Stadium.
