Former Kotoko superstar Bekoe backs Hearts to win FA Cup

Former Asante Kotoko star Eric Kwabena Bekoe says Hearts of Oak are favourites to lift the 2017 Ghana FA Cup trophy ahead of his boyhood club on Sunday in Tamale.

Bekoe, 28, who grew up in Kumasi and became the poster boy of Kotoko between 2007 and 2009, believes the Phobians have improved tremendously following their slow start to the just-concluded Ghana Premier League season.

The Phobians finished third on the log with 45 points, two points above Kotoko.

“Hearts of Oak have picked up since the start of the second round of the just-concluded season. Looking at their form guide, I think they’re on top [compared to Kotoko]," Bekoe told Citi FM.

"So, looking at it from a spectator’s point of view, Hearts are favorites to win the title.

“But when it comes to this match, it’s not about your form guide. Anything can happen in the game,” he added.

Hearts are the most successful club in the cup competition after lifting the title ten times, two more than Kotoko. The two clubs last met at this stage in August 1990 and although Kotoko won 4-2, Hearts were declared winners later after winning a protest against Joe Debrah who scored a brace, due to accumulated yellow cards.

Bekoe won the Ghana Premier League topscorer award in 2008 after netting 17 times.
