Fifa President Gianni Infantino helps Africa open development office in Ethiopia

Ethiopia’s Minister of Youth and Sport, Ato Ristu Yirdaw together with Fifa President Gianni Infantino performed the official opening ceremony in the presence of Football Federation Presidents from the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa).

“It feels very good because it’s another step in the right direction showing that Fifa wants to be at the service of football. The office in Addis Ababa shows that we are serious to develop football in the region,” Infantino told Goal in an interview.

Caf President Ahmad Ahmad and Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura also attended the function.

The Addis Ababa office follows the creation of the Fifa Forward Development Programme in 2016.

Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Fifa Development Director for the Caribbean and Africa Region said that opening a new regional development office is proof that Fifa is committed to drive global football development and further strengthen and enhance its ties with confederations and member associations.
