Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has pledged to offer relief for stranded Sao Tome and Principe in Yaounde, after they have been unable to return home since last Saturday.
Goal earlier reported that the Sao Tomean delegation were left stranded after their 6-0 U17 Women's World Cup qualifier defeat against the Indomitable Lionesses at Ngoa-Ekelle Stadium.
Report says the team could not return to Sao Tome due to a border closure in Equatorial Guinea, which saw their flight cancelled as a result of the widespread coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday, Fecafoot disclosed that it is in talks with the Cameroon government and Sao Tomean Football Federation to ensure the U17 team returns home and reunite with the families.
"Following the return leg of the U17 Women's World Cup qualifier for the India 2020 played at the Stadium on March 14, 2020, the youth team of Sao Tome and Principe was not able to return to their country due to the closing of the airport of transit of Malabo in Equatorial Guinea due to the pandemic of the Covid-19," the statement read.
"The Sao Tomean delegation led by Sao Tome and Principe Federation vice president Luis Miguel d'Alva has been since then waiting in a hotel in Yaounde.
"The Cameroon Football Federation follows very closely the situation of the officials and players of Sao Tome and Principe and is currently with the Cameroon government and sister Federation of Sao Tome are looking for a quick solution to get them back to their country.
"In the meantime, the Fecafoot are assuring by a daily update that the Sao Tome delegation are in condition dignified of the reputation of the legendary hospitality of Cameroon and are perfectly informed of the measure of prevention of public health taken by the government in other to limit the spread of Coronavirus."
