On Sunday, the shot-stopper, named in the three-time African champions' 30-man provisional list for the big summer in Russia, was escorted to the Port Elizabeth International Airport by supporters and management of the Chilli Boys.
This season, the former Heartland man kept 23 league games for the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium outfit who finished 10th in the log after gathering 37 points from 30 matches.

In the national team, however, Akpeyi has to contend with three others goalies in the mould of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho and Dele Ajiboye for one of the three spots in the 23-man squad to the World Cup.
The national team camp opens on Monday, in Uyo and Gernot Rohr's team will play DR Congo at the Godswill Akapbio Stadium on Sunday.
