Barcelona's Oshoala and Napoli's Osimhen honoured at 2022 Nigeria Pitch Awards

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been crowned the King of the Pitch while Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala claimed the Queen of the Pitch award at the 2022 Nigeria Pitch Awards.

They were honoured at a ceremony that took place at the Wells Carlton Hotels and Apartments on Tuesday night after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

Oshoala saw off competition from Gift Monday and Uchenna Kalu after scoring 19 goals in 16 league matches for Barcelona in the Primera Division.

She also claimed her third consecutive league title in the Spanish top-flight since she joined Blaugranes in January 2019.

Osimhen, on his part, has had an impressive season in Serie A despite injury challenges.

The 23-year-old has scored 11 goals in 20 league matches so far in this campaign and he was the Super Eagles' top scorer in their unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaign with four goals.

The Napoli star beat Genk's goal machine Paul Onuachu and midfield maestro Wilfred Ndidi to the top award.

Osimhen was also honoured with the Striker of the Year award while Ndidi, William Troost-Ekong and Maduka Okoye scooped the Midfielder, Defender and Goalkeeper of the Year prizes.

In the area of sports journalism, GOAL's Shina Oludare was recognised as the Best Online journalist and Channels TV's Cecilia Omorogba won the category for television journalism.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Boboye clinched the Coach of the Year award after leading a triumphant campaign with Akwa United in the 2020-21 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The Promise Keepers were also rewarded as the Team of the Year at the glamorous ceremony in the nation's capital.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was honoured as the football friendly Governor of the Year after they hosted the Super Eagles for their group games in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and energy company AITEO group were awarded the Corporate Sponsor of Football and the first vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Seyi claimed the Sam Okwaraji Award.
