Bakary Sako on target in Crystal Palace’s heavy defeat to Bristol City

Bakary Sako was on target in Crystal Palace’s humiliating 4-1 loss to Bristol City in the round of 16 of the English League Cup on Tuesday evening.

The Mali international gave the Eagles the lead in the 21st minute after Ruben Loftus-Cheek played the forward through on goal and he finished through the legs of Luke Steele.

Matt Taylor got the Robins back into the game in the 31st minute. After controlling Patrick Van Aanholt’s attempted back pass, the forward fired a first time finish past Wayne Hennessey. And the hosts took the lead five minutes later when Milan Djuric pounced on a loose ball in the box to poke the ball in.

Things went from bad to worse for Roy Hodgson’s side when Joe Bryan added a third and just six minutes later, Callum O'Dowda made it four for Lee Johnson’s side.

Sako played the entire duration of the humiliating defeat while Pape Souare was brought on to replace Sullay Kaikai in the 64th minute.

Crystal Palace who have had a torrid start to their 2017-18 campaign will be looking to turn things around when they welcome fellow strugglers West Ham to Selhurst Park on October 28.
