    Africa’s top scorer

The big one; this weekend—finally—Mohamed Salah became Africa’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, after knocking Didier Drogba off top spot in the rankings.

The Ivory Coast forward had been the continent’s top scorer in the Prem since his final campaign at Chelsea, having registered 104 goals in the top tier, but Salah smashed that record in style against Manchester United.

His hat-trick takes him up to 107 goals in the Premier League, establishing him as Africa’s all-time top scorer in the PL.

    Consecutive goals

In netting against United, Salah extended his goalscoring run to 10 games, having netted in each Liverpool fixture since their meeting with Burnley earlier in the season.

There’s no doubt that he’s in red hot for right now and, for context, it’s the first time in Liverpool’s 129-year history that a player has scored in 10 consecutive matches in all competitions.

He was rested against Preston North End in midweek, but could extend that run against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

    Liverpool’s fastest

Salah’s form earlier this season saw him hitting the 100-Premier League goal mark for the Reds, a feat which he achieved quicker than any other player in the club’s history.

It took Salah just 151 matches to reach the mark, testament to his searing form since returning to English football with the Merseyside giants.

Earlier in his Reds career, he already became the first Liverpool player to score at least 20 goals in three separate Prem campaigns, and expect him to make it four this term!

    Record against United

Salah also has a track record for scoring at the home of Liverpool’s bitterest enemy—Manchester United.

His hat-trick at Old Trafford on Sunday means that he’s now netted in his last three appearances at the Red Devils’ home.

This makes Salah the first Liverpool player in history to score in three consecutive games at the Theatre of Dreams.

United will certainly be delighted to see the back of him!

Standing in the footsteps of giants

While Salah is not the first away play to net three times at Old Trafford, he is the first since 2003.

Indeed, the last player to score a hat-trick at United’s home as an away player is the original Ronaldo, who eviscerated the Red Devils’ backline in a Champions League game 18 years ago.

It’s elite company for the Egypt superstar to find himself in, and ending the wait for another visiting player to net a hat-trick at United’s home is a massive feather in his cap!

    Starting strongly

Salah began this season as he meant to go on, with a goal as Liverpool dispatched Norwich City.

The goal means that the Egypt forward has now netted in the opening game of the season in each of the last five seasons, the first player to do so for five consecutive campaigns.
