Goal 50 2030: Which Africans could be among the world's best in a decade?

The Goal 50 has firmly become an institution, an annual celebration of the greatest male and female players in the world.
Over the years, the cream of African talent have been honoured in the annual list, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah included in this year’s selection.

The continent’s stars have always been healthily included in the Goal 50, and considering some of the finest young African players in the world today, we’re expecting that to continue.

In this feature, Ed Dove looks 10 years into the future, and picks out five African wonderkids who he believes could make Goal 50 2030.

After netting 13 goals in Ligue 1 last season, Osimhen secured a big-money move to Napoli in the summer—becoming one of the most expensive African transfers in the history of the game.
It was a massive gamble from the Italian giants, particularly after he’d only spent one (abridged) season with LOSC Lille after moving to France.

So far, his start in Italy has been slow—with only two goals in eight games—but Osimhen’s impact in the final third, and his potential for the Partenopei, is clear for all to see.

He’s on course to become the finest African striker of his generation, can he also force his way into the Goal 50?

Lamptey is winning over the critics at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion this term after being allowed to leave by Chelsea earlier in the year.
The Blues’ loss could be the Seagull’s gain, or even Atletico Madrid, if the Spanish giants act on their reported interest in the diminutive full-back.

Lamptey offers speed, anticipation and ease in possession, while his ability to go toe to toe with speedy forwards and win one-on-one combats makes him a superb option down the right flank.

If he can secure a move back to one of Europe’s giants, then he could be a contender for the Goal 50 in the future.

The ‘New Eto’o’ hasn’t yet made his senior debut for Borussia Dortmund, but he is one of the most exciting young players in the world game, and appears destined for the top.
The 15-year-old has smashed goalscoring records aplenty at youth level, demonstrating the kind of aptitude for finding the net that could make him a once-in-a-generation talent.

"He has the goal gene," Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sky Sports Germany. "Whether he's scoring three or four in games for the under-19s, if you're doing them regularly, you definitely have the goal gene.

"But it will be the decision of the coach as to whether or when he plays. He is going to be the youngest of them all, so we have to be careful not to overload him.

"It's ideal to have him [move into the senior team] though. If [Erving] Haaland needs a break, then maybe [Lucien] Favre will try out Youssoufa."

While he’s currently injured, Kudus has made a strong start to life in Ajax, comfortably adapting to life in the Eredivisie after impressing in the Danish top flight.
He scored 11 in 25 for Nordsjaelland last term, and has hit the ground with the Amsterdam giants, having a hand in four goals in five outings so far.

The set-up is ripe for him at Ajax to continue his progress, and he has the quality to follow in the footsteps of some of the club’s other graduates who are now gracing the biggest clubs in the world’s major leagues.

Mohammed Kudus

A few eyebrows were raised earlier this year when Real Madrid were reportedly understood to be keen on Cameroon striker Ganago.
However, he’s added weight to those rumours in recent weeks, scoring four goals in his first five matches for Racing Club de Lens after making the move from OGC Nice during the summer.

The hitman, at just 21, has the potential to become one of Ligue 1’s leading frontmen; he already has almost a third of Osimhen’s tally for last year, so who knows, perhaps a move to one of Europe’s giants will be in the offing in 2021.
