  1. Awaziem

    Review of Nigerians in Europe

Chidozie Awaziem had a storming game at centre-back in a huge win over Galatasaray, while Joe Aribo’s impressive showing for Rangers probably merited three points.

  2. Cyriel Dessers - PSV 2021-22

Dessers came off the bench for his Eredivisie debut for Feyenoord and registered an assist and netted a 92nd-minute strike to open his account for the club.

After a tough time at Genk last season, the Nigerian’s two goal involvements in only seven minutes of action was a good thing and puts him in good stead going forward.

The 4-0 thrashing of PSV on the league challengers’ turf ended the Peasants’ winning run in the Eredivisie.

  3. Chidozie Awaziem - Leganes 2019-20

After netting on debut for Alanyaspor last time out, Awaziem gave another impressive defensive showing at centre-back against Galatasaray.

The Nigerian wasn’t scared to get stuck in or clear the ball away from dangerous zones against Fatih Terim’s side.

Awaziem also won five of his seven duels, made three interceptions and was mostly accurate with his passes, completing 34 from 39.

Success against the Yellow-Reds sees Alanyaspor supplant Terim’s team on the log.

  4. Watford and Nigeria defender William Troost-Ekong.

A mostly solid showing at Norwich City saw the summer signing continue a fine start to the season.

Watford may have let in one strike in the 3-1 win at Carrow Road, but Troost-Ekong played well for 90 minutes.

The former Udinese defender made a last-ditch goal-line clearance, won all but one duels and was no-nonsense in his defensive style when necessary.

Saturday’s win was the Hornets’ fifth consecutive success over the Canaries.

  5. Moses Simon - Nantes 2021/22

After a three-game losing run, Nantes thrashed fourth-placed Angers on Sunday 4-0, and it was thoroughly deserved too.

Simon’s part in the victory shouldn’t be ignored, with the wideman assisting two of the Canaries’ goals, continuing his fine run of assists this season.

The West African has now set up five goals in Ligue 1 in six appearances, a tally higher than anyone in the division.

Nantes moved to 10th following the comprehensive victory at Stade Raymond Kopa.

  6. Joe Aribo - Rangers

Aribo probably left Ibrox with a sense of disappointment because his incredible performance didn’t result in a win for Rangers against Motherwell.

The midfielder not assisted Fashion Sakala’s 12th-minute effort, but he also fashioned six shooting openings for teammates on the day, with two categorised as big chances.

He completed all three dribble attempts on the day and came out on top in eight of his 12 duels in the 1-1 draw.

Rangers remain top in the Premiership despite dropping two points on home turf.
