After the Seagulls turned down the Gunners' £40m bid for the England centre-back, Goal gathers a list of African players Mikel Arteta should consider

  • Kalidou Koulibaly Napoli

    Kalidou Koulibaly - Napoli

The Senegal centre-back remains a strong transfer option for Arsenal, thanks to fine defensive performances in the Serie A.

He has been linked with several European heavyweights in the past transfer periods, but a right offer from the Gunners could see Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis part with the 29-year-old.

Koulibaly played 37 matches in all competitions last season which includes 25 league appearances and seven in the Europa League.

  • Nayef Aguerd Morocco CHAN 2018

    Nayef Aguerd - Rennes

Another talented centre-back that Arsenal should look at is Nayef Aguerd.

On a personal note, the Morocco international had a fine outing in Ligue 1 during the 2020-21 season where he scored three goals in 35 matches and also won an average of 3.5 aerial duels per game.

With a market value of around €8m, the Gunners might consider Aguerd as a cheaper option to White who has a price tag of around €50m.

  • Dakonam, Messi - LaLiga

    Djene Dakonam - Getafe

Dakonam has proved his consistency at the heart of Getafe's defence in the past four years.

The Togolese has started an average of 34 La Liga matches in each of the last four seasons, and his leadership ability alongside defensive solidity might interest Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Dakonam might be the perfect piece in the Gunners' defensive set-up following David Luiz's exit.

  • Edmond Tapsoba Bayer Leverkusen 2019-20

    Edmond Tapsoba - Bayer Leverkusen

Tapsoba has shown how quickly he can adapt to a new environment after switching to the German Bundesliga in January 2020 and he has established himself in Bayer Leverkusen's defence.

The Burkinabe centre-back was one of the regular fixtures in Hannes Wolf's team last season with 31 appearances under his belt in the German top-flight.

Tapsoba, 22, is a year younger than White which makes him a more youthful option for Arsenal.

  • Wily Boly Wolves N'Golo Kante Chelsea

    Wily Boly - Wolverhampton Wanderers

With his experience in the Premier League, the Ivory Coast international is a good alternative to boost the Gunners defence.

Boly, who moved to England in 2017, has established himself at Molineux Stadium and he even played 21 matches last season despite his injury struggles.

Meanwhile, Wolves might be forced to strike a deal for the 30-year-old who has a year left at the club.
