'Yes lawd!' - Anderson .Paak and GOAL kit collaboration celebrates vibrant intersection between soccer and hip-hop community

“Yes lawd!” is nine-time Grammy award winning artist Anderson .Paak’s signature shout. Listeners to his music know it as a key touchpoint, something that distinguishes a .Paak track from any other.

It is also, incidentally, the best possible summary of his new soccer kit, produced in collaboration with GOAL and the California-born rapper. The .Paak and GOAL collab will support youth soccer in Ventura County, which he calls home.

The collaboration between Anderson .Paak and Goal highlights the dynamic intersection between soccer and rap culture. The jersey is, in effect, that attitude, all wrapped into one long-sleeved number.

.Paak learned how to play drums, rap and sing, and his whole youth was informed by an inherent creativity, a scrappiness that comes from being a place a little off the beaten path - especially in the scope of the hip hop community he is very much a part of.

This jersey summarizes that attitude. There's the imaginative badge that spins the font familiar on a number of his album covers. There's the "86" on the back, a nod to .Paak's birth year. That’s the most obvious symbolism behind the design. And then, there are the details: “YES LAWD” just below the collar on the back, a GOAL emblem on the bottom right.

.Paak has made a conscious effort to make it work for his community, too. The kit will be available to purchase starting Sept. 25. As part of the .Paak and GOAL sponsorship, pitch-ready kits will be donated to U9 girls' side Oxnard Eagles , a local outfit etched into the fabric of .Paak’s hometown - and 10 percent of all jersey sales will go to that club, with a minimum grant of $10,000.

Those funds are committed to reinvesting in the team and those who play. It will help provide scholarships, cover field rental fees and practice equipment, and also contribute towards transportation costs that come with the American club soccer scene.

The artist also supports the .Paak House, an initiative of his charitable organization, to “create programs that uplift, engage and support the community through access to the arts, supplemental education and unique experiences to expand the imagination.”

And one key here is something far more basic: the jersey simply looks very, very cool. The long-sleeve kit, the oversized short-sleeved tee, even a black soccer ball to complement it all, make for a captivating capsule collection.

The shirt is available on GOAL Projects’ online store, and underscores GOAL’s commitment to investing in the arts and the communities that surround soccer.

Yes lawd!
