Redknapp picks which former player he'd take into the jungle

Former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is the latest figure from the footballing world to star in reality television series I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, following in the footsteps of Wayne Bridge and Neil Ruddock.

Redknapp has already emerged as a popular figure with audiences in the new season of show with his amusing stories – having told his fellow contestants of a particular encounter with Prince Harry at a hotel, whom he didn't recognise and proceeded to address as "mate".

The 71-year-old, who most recently took charge of Championship side Birmingham City, has already taken to the Australian jungle life with ease having stroked exotic crabs and eaten emu meat in his first few days.

And now, Redknapp has now revealed which former player he'd like to take to take to the jungle – and it isn't his own son, former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp!

"That is a difficult one, off the top of my head!" Harry conceded in a Q&A during the show.

"I know Razor [Neil] Ruddock's been here, he'd be good fun. But he's already done the jungle! I might take Rio Ferdinand. See how he gets on with it. He's a good lad, Rio."

Ferdinand played under Redknapp on two occasions, first at West Ham - who Redknapp brought in as a promising youngster through the club's academy - from 1995 to 2000 and then during a second spell at Queens Park Rangers during the 2014-15 season.

I'm a Celebrity... currently airs on ITV.
