  • WHAT HAPPENED?

With just 11 months remaining on his contract, the American midfielder is most likely to be sold this summer. Negotiations over a new deal have been put on hold due to a disagreement over agent commissions. According to Alfredo Pedulla, Juventus had hoped to extend his stay beyond 2026, but the gap between his agent's demands and the club's willingness to offer has turned out to be too big so far. With no breakthrough in site, he will be offloaded to allow the Serie A giants to pursue other transfers as they rebuild under coach Igor Tudor.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

McKennie has been linked with a move away from Turin almost every summer since his arrival in 2020, but the Serie A club have managed to keep the 26-year-old with short-term deals. However, this time, they are not willing to risk losing him on a free transfer in 2025. With no progress on a new contract, The Old Lady is open to listening to offers for the midfielder.

Juventus, who are eyeing Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho, are also working to manage their wage structure. Offloading McKennie would free up space in midfield and help them push ahead with other key signings.

Roma recently offered left-back Lorenzo Pellegrini in a swap deal involving McKennie, but Juventus rejected the proposal. A second idea involving a trade for Bryan Cristante was also explored, but has not been materialised yet.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

McKennie has made 182 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 19 assists. Last season, he featured in 27 Serie A matches and contributed two goals and four assists.

    WHAT NEXT FOR JUVENTUS?

Unless contract talks resume soon, Juventus will look to finalise a sale for McKennie before the transfer window closes. The club are already facing multiple roadblocks in the transfer market, including the future of Dusan Vlahovic and Douglas Luiz, who are in talks to leave this summer.
