    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Portuguese manager was speaking ahead of United's final Premier League game of the season, a home fixture against Aston Villa. Amorim refused to look past that assignment, but did hint at future conversations with two of his best players. The United boss said the club has planned for a 2025/26 season without Champions League football, warning the Old Trafford faithful that the club's problems won't be solved by one transfer window.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bruno has been linked with a sensational move to Saudi Arabia, as Al-Hilal have reportedly given United's captain a week to respond to a three-year contract offer worth up to £200m. Garnacho cast doubts over his own future when he lamented his limited role in United's 1-0 loss to Spurs in Wednesday's Europa League Final. The young Argentinian started from the bench, and his number wasn't called until the 70th minute despite a lacklustre attacking display by the Red Devils.

  • WHAT RUBEN AMORIM SAID

Amorim said: "I will speak with my players but the focus is the last game. I don’t know what is going to happen. We have a plan. We were prepared for both situations, with Champions League and without. We have an idea type of squad we want, but we still have the last game. We have time to address all these situations.

"We have this game against Villa and we need to focus on that. It is not over. We want to finish in a good way in front of our supporters.. Then, after, we will assess the squad. We know what we want to do. We will deal with that when the season is finished.

"You feel it is going to take time. It is not about (transfer) windows. Sometimes we don’t know. Things can change fast, but to reach the kind of level we need to be at Manchester United will take time. I don’t know how many windows or years we need to reach that point, but we can improve, that is clear."

On the lost to Spurs, Amorim said: "It was really tough, and still is,’ he said. ‘It was harsh for us to lose, we were the better team we had more chances but suffered a goal near half-time. We tried everything in the second half. We said before the match if we didn’t win the final, it would be even harder to deal with that."

    WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?

While Amorim has tried to keep the focus on Villa, the Old Trafford faithful will want this season to end. All their focus will instead be turned to how Amorim and the United chiefs can attempt to turn the ship around.
