  • WHAT HAPPENED?

U.S. men's national team forward Haji Wright scored for Coventry City in their 2-1 defeat to Burnley in the English Championship on Saturday. The 27-year-old found the back of the net after two different shot attempts from the Sky Blues saw them denied from close range, but Wright was in the right place at the right time to tap home with their third attempt on frame.

The strike opened the scoring five minutes into the match, but a brace from Burnley's Jaidon Anthony saw the Clarets overcome the early deficit to take all three points.

With the victory, Burnley remain atop the Championship standings as they search for automatic promotion to the Premier League, while Coventry aren't too far behind in sixth as they continue their climb up the table in hopes to secure a playoff berth in their attempt for promotion as well.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wright now has four goals in his last three games since returning from injury for Coventry City after missing four months from November to March. He made his debut under Frank Lampard on March 1 in a cameo off the bench, and the ex-Chelsea boss has not started him in four-straight matches.

In 21 Championship appearances this season, Wright is now up to 11 goals, as he continues to make an impact at the club level. Come this summer, he could be someone USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino calls upon for the June FIFA international window or the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

He debuted under the Argentine in October, bagging an assist in an international friendly victory over Panama.
