  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Spurs have enquired about Kudus as they bid to reinforce a Europa League-winning squad ahead of a return to the Champions League next season. With Thomas Frank in charge, the club have already reportedly made a bid for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, and GOAL understands that they have also communicated a desire to buy the Ghana international to the Hammers, although they have yet to meet their £65m price tag their London rivals have set and would rather pay closer to £50m ($67m).

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Spurs face significant challenges in convincing West Ham to sell to them, however. Kudus has a release clause for Premier League clubs of £85m ($114m) that kicks in next month. Sources have made it clear that the Irons do not expect that buyout clause to be triggered, although it does give them a strong hand in negotiations, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also interested.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Acrimony exists between the Spurs and West Ham boardrooms, and the two clubs often refuse to do business together. Their last transaction came in 2011, when Spurs signed Scott Parker after their rivals' relegation. As a result, the Hammers would rather sell Kudus to another suitor, namely Chelsea, due to the ongoing tensions.

    WHAT NEXT?

Talks have been initiated between Spurs and the Hammers, and Kudus is very keen to ensure he leaves the London Stadium this summer. The winger, who has scored 19 goals and registered 13 assists in 80 games for the club, has recently changed agents as he bids to find a new club.
