Scotland left 'gutted' as striker Lyndon Dykes suffers 'freak' injury and ruled out of Euro 2024

Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes will miss Euro 2024 after suffering a serious injury in training on Friday.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Dykes was taken off on a stretcher during Friday's training session, two weeks before Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign gets underway. Scotland haven't gone into detail regarding the injury, however it's serious enough that the QPR striker will play no part in the tournament.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The 28-year-old figured to play a crucial part for Scotland. Dykes has scored nine goals in 36 caps and played in all eight qualifiers. Now, the Tartan Army must find a new plan that doesn't make the most of Dykes' physical approach.
WHAT THE SCOTLAND NATIONAL TEAM SAID
"Following an injury in training yesterday, Lyndon Dykes has been ruled out of the squad for UEFA EURO 2024," a post from Scotland read. "We’re gutted for you, Lyndon, but know you’ll be back in a Scotland shirt soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery."

WHAT HAVE SCOTLAND PLAYERS SAID?
Midfielder Ryan Christie described the incident as a "freak thing", while also citing a creeping number of injuries in the Scotland squad. The Scots will also be without key trio Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson and Lewis Ferguson in Germany.
"All the boys are gutted for Lyndon, it's just a freak thing to happen," Christie told BBC Scotland. "We've had a few injuries already, so it's frustrating."
