  • Could now extend their contracts
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to The Athletic, Los Blancos are now considering the possibility of extending the contracts of both Kroos and Modric. Both players' deals will expire on June 30 and given their combined age of 72, it was assumed the two midfielders would be moving on from the Bernabeu Stadium.

However, following the success of the club this season after securing the league title in Spain and progressing to the Champions League final, the club is now exploring the possibility of keeping both players.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Modric, 39, was the favourite to leave the Spanish giants this summer after seeing his role reduced within the side throughout the current campaign. Meanwhile, Madrid are eager to keep Kroos at the club for as long as he feels he can compete at the highest level.

Carlo Ancelotti wants both players to stay due to the competitiveness and culture they provide for their teammates. He also believes they have performed well throughout the current campaign.

  • WHAT ANCELOTTI SAID

"The club is not anxious, I'm not anxious and Toni is not anxious," he said regarding the futures of his players. "Our target is 1 June and that is a secondary issue. After that, the parties involved will have to talk about it. We are all thinking only about one thing - winning the Champions League."
