  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Chelsea ace swapped Barcelona for Celta this summer after struggling with injuries and a lack of game time last season. Despite not featuring prominently for the Catalan team, the 33-year-old has no ill will against his former employers ahead of their La Liga match this weekend.

    WHAT MARCOS ALONSO SAID

He said: "I don’t need any revenge. Last year I didn’t have continuity and it’s complicated, especially because of the injury. Now I’m enjoying football again, I’m very happy and looking forward to the game."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Former Spain international Alonso made 45 appearances for Barcelona in his two years there after joining from Chelsea, but just 25 of those were in the starting XI. A back injury limited his minutes in the second half of last season and with Barca promoting youth academy product Alejandro Balde to the first-choice left-back role, Alonso seemingly made the right call moving to Celta.
