    WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United's dire situation on the field has meant that the Red Devils' financial situation has taken a turn for the worse as their attempt to remedy the situation by making big-money signings has failed to bear fruit. As such, minority owners INEOS have made many major cost-cutting solutions, which have involved a number of job cuts to the Red Devils' non-footballing staff.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Earlier this month, Amorim, who joined the club in November as Erik ten Hag's replacement, seemed to blame the players' failure to perform up to standard for the dire response taken by the ownership of the club. However, an unnamed source has now told The Sun that the Portuguese coach's comments have not gone down well with the players at Old Trafford.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The report has claimed that the remarks have caused a rift between Amorim and his first team, who are also adjusting to the demanding methods of the Portuguese manager. The source told The Sun: “If you went into Carrington, you would think the players and Amorim are getting on great. But the truth is the players are frustrated for being blamed for the financial problems of the club.

“However, they haven’t challenged the manager as they haven’t yet formed a bond with him. He is clear in what he wants from them on the pitch, and they are trying to implement it. But while some of them are fully behind his tactics, they feel that they cannot speak up as Amorim is steadfast in what he wants. They are doing what they are told, whether they think it's right or not...the players feel like they can't show any displeasure or it will become a problem"

    WHAT NEXT FOR AMORIM?

While fans had been expecting an immediate upturn in form following Amorim's appointment, the team has continued to struggle on the pitch. Manchester United currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League, the same position as when Ten Hag.
