Liverpool wages: Who is the best paid player at the Reds and everything you need to know about Liverpool's salary bill

Liverpool continue to be one of the Premier League's big guns, with Arne Slot doing a spectacular job following Jurgen Klopp's decision to step down at the end of the 2023-24 season.

The success Liverpool have enjoyed under Klopp has solidified their position as one of Europe's most formidable teams. While Klopp undoubtedly deserves the lion's share of credit for the club's current standing, it's also important to acknowledge the club's astute business dealings over the past decade. These strategic moves have played a crucial role in the Reds' resurgence and sustained excellence.

Owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), those overseeing Liverpool's finances have demonstrated to Europe's elite clubs that a league-winning team can be built without overspending or offering exorbitant wages. Their smart, measured approach to recruitment and financial management has set a powerful example for others in the footballing fraternity.

But who is the highest earner at Liverpool this season? And who is on the opposite end of the spectrum?

GOAL delved into the numbers from Capology and found out!

    Goalkeepers

Alisson is the outright highest-earning goalkeeper at Liverpool, making around £8m annually. In fact, he is joint-highest earning custodian in the Premier League along with Aston Villa's Emi Martinez.

However, backup keepers Caoimhin Kelleher and Vitezslav Jaros together earn less than a million pounds every year.

    NameSalary
    Alisson£7,800,000
    Caoimhin Kelleher£520,000
    Vitezslav Jaros£364,000

    Defenders

No surprises here as Virgil van Dijk, the Liverpool captain, is the highest-earning defender in the squad, and the only defender to earn in double digit millions annually. He is also the club's second-highest earner.

As expected, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the second-highest earning defender. With the speculation rife that he could well be on his way to Real Madrid in the summer, Liverpool might have to make the academy graduate their best-paid defender.

Left-back Andrew Robertson follows Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold with a salary of over £8m. The likes of Joe Gomez and Konstantinos Tsimikas earn respectable salaries, too, but the Reds' faithful would have hoped to see star centre-back Ibrahima Konate a bit higher on this list.

Academy starlets Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley are, unsurprisingly, the lowest-paid defenders of Liverpool.

    NameSalary
    Virgil van Dijk£11,440,000
    Trent Alexander-Arnold£9,360,000
    Andrew Robertson£8,320,000
    Joe Gomez£4,420,000
    Konstantinos Tsimikas£3,900,000
    Ibrahima Konate£3,640,000
    Jarell Quansah£1,560,000
    Conor Bradley£520,000

    Midfielders

Alexis Mac Allister, crucial to Argentina's World Cup-winning campaign in 2022, is the joint-highest earning midfielder along with Dutch international Ryan Gravenberch. The latter has especially proven that he's worth every penny paid for him and to him, becoming an indispensable figure under Arne Slot.

Hungarian maestro Dominik Szoboszlai is the third on the list of the midfielders' earning list, raking in over £6m per year.

Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott each earn over £2m annually. The only point of contention among fans might be Curtis Jones' salary, as he is the only midfielder earning a six-figure sum per year. Given his performances on the pitch, his salary doesn't seem to align with his contributions.

    NameSalary
    Alexis Mac Allister£7,800,000
    Ryan Gravenberch£7,800,000
    Dominik Szoboszlai£6,240,000
    Wataru Endo£2,600,000
    Harvey Elliott£2,080,000
    Curtis Jones£780,000

    Attackers

It's no surprise that Liverpool's highest-paid attacker is Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian King who continues to make history at the club. With less than six months remaining on his contract, Kopites will be hoping for a swift resolution to secure the future of their No. 11 and ensure he keeps wreaking havoc in the Premier League.

Liverpool fans will likely be shocked to learn that Federico Chiesa ranks second in salary among the club’s attackers, while Luis Diaz finds himself at the bottom of the list. The Italy international has struggled with injuries since his arrival and has yet to carve out a regular role in Slot's plans. Meanwhile, Diaz, despite his challenges, remains Liverpool's second-highest goal scorer across all competitions.

Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz all earn decent salaries as well.

    NameSalary
    Mohamed Salah£18,200,000
    Federico Chiesa£7,800,000
    Diogo Jota£7,280,000
    Darwin Nunez£7,280,000
    Cody Gakpo£6,240,000
    Luis Diaz£2,860,000

    Top 5 lowest-paid Liverpool players

We don't necessarily have to feel sorry for Vitezlav Jaros, but the 23-year-old goalkeeper is the lowest-paid player in Liverpool's first team with a gross annual salary of £364,000.

Academy starlets Bradley, Quansah, and Jones are also among the lowest-paid figures at Anfield. Given the latter's importance to the team, it begs the question whether he truly deserves to be paid so little.

    NameSalary
    Vitezlav Jaros£364,000
    Conor Bradley£520,000
    Caoimhin Kelleher£520,000
