Lionesses star Chloe Kelly issues perfect response to Joey Barton's sexist rant after recently-sacked Bristol Rovers boss claims women should not comment on men's game

With female commentators and pundits featuring heavily during Amazon Prime's coverage of the midweek round of Premier League games, Barton took to social media to voice his disapproval. "Women shouldn't be talking with any kind of authority in the men's game," the former Manchester City midfielder posted on X. "Come on. Let's be serious. It's a completely different game."

Barton has since doubled down on those comments, directly attacking pundit and presenter Alex Scott in an appearance on TalkTV.

In response to a clip of Barton's appearance on TalkTV, Kelly simply posted: "Football is football," a message that drew huge approval on the platform.

Barton was recently sacked by Bristol Rovers after a controversial but largely successful three-year spell in charge and his comments have brought him back in the wider public spotlight once more. The former QPR and Newcastle star is no stranger to controversy with his outspoken views and off-field escapades have seen him hit the headlines on a number of occasions over the years. His attack on female pundits, laced with phrases such as 'woke agenda' and 'quotas' will no doubt give him airtime on radio and TV in the days and weeks to come.

While Barton tours the country's TV studios attempting to back up his views, Kelly will look to put the week's Nations League heartbreak behind her with a win against Aston Villa on Saturday.
