Heartache for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney! Stockport deprive Wrexham of League Two title by thumping Notts County to claim trophy

The Hatters knew that three points against Notts County would seal the trophy - and they got the job done in emphatic fashion. Star striker Paddy Madden netted a 14-minute hat trick in the first half, setting them well on their way for the result they required. Antoni Sarcevic then added another just after the break, before Notts County made the result look a little more respectable, with two goals around the hour mark. Ethan Pye then netted five minutes from time to seal a famous 5-2 victory for the visitors.

Wrexham will be disappointed that they could not claim successive league titles - having previously lifted the National League trophy last season - but it's still party time in North Wales. On Saturday, Wrexham secured one of the three automatic promotion spots courtesy of a 6-0 thrashing of Forest Green Rovers, meaning they will be playing in the third tier next campaign.

Mansfield will be joining Wrexham in League One, too. The Stags, who were top of the table for an extended stretch before hitting a rough patch of form, also secured promotion on Tuesday. A 2-1 victory over Accrington Stanley, George Maris and the experienced Stephen Quinn grabbed the all-important goals to seal their fate.

Wrexham will still be pushing for a second-placed finish and are back in League Two action against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday. The curtain then comes down on their campaign at home to Stockport on April 27, where the Red Dragons will presumably provide a guard of honour for their opponents.
