    It has been announced, after several years of speculation, that former England captain Beckham is to be knighted. His work in football and for various charitable causes around the world is being recognised.

    Beckham, who was awarded an OBE in 2003 and recently celebrated his 50th birthday, has admitted he "never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour". He went on to say that it will "take a little while for the news to sink in but I’m immensely proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family".

    Neville, who was best man at Beckham's wedding when he tied the knot with former Spice Girls star Victoria, forms part of the Three Lions icon's sporting family. They enjoyed many happy years together at Old Trafford, winning Premier League and Champions League titles.
