    WHAT HAPPENED?

Since Gareth Southgate's departure from the post after England's Euro 2024 final loss to Spain, the FA has been looking to hire a replacement for the 53-year-old. Lampard's name has been suggested by the media, but Gallas feels that the Chelsea legend will not be respected by the Three Lions players due to his struggles as a club manager.

    WHAT GALLAS SAID

Speaking to Lord Ping, Gallas said: "Frank Lampard wouldn’t be a good fit for England. You have to look at his CV and it’s not enough. He hasn’t won any trophies or had any success in the Premier League, even though he has been the manager of Chelsea twice. You have to say he failed.

"There has been talk of him taking charge of England and the players would respect what he did as a player, but I’m not sure they will respect what he has done as a manager.

"England need a manager who has won trophies - it's been 58 years since they won something. It’s been so long despite them having the best league in the world. I’m convinced that it’s now time to appoint a foreign coach."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lampard has indeed been a flop in his managerial career despite having impressed during his stint as Derby County's head coach. However, the Chelsea legend then moved to Stamford Bridge and was unable to show his qualities before being sacked and then moving to Everton. He failed to impress with the Toffees after leaving them in the relegation zone before his sacking in the winter of 2023.

    WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?

Gallas has backed former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to take over as the Three Lions coach as he thinks the German would be the ideal England coach. "For me, Jurgen Klopp would be the perfect manager for England. He won everything with Liverpool and he knows all the players, he would be the best fit there is," he said.

"France, Italy, Spain and every national team would be worried if England appointed Klopp, it would be exciting to see what he could win. The players, having seen what he did at club level, would love him to get the job."
