  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Ten Hag saw his United team win 2-1 thanks to goals from Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho but it remains up in the air whether or not he will lead the side again next season. Newspaper reports 24 hours prior to the final suggested that United had decided to sack the Dutchman regardless of the result.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ten Hag oversaw an underwhelming league campaign in which United finished eighth, but their FA Cup performance has seen them qualify for the Europa League. As a result of that dispiriting performance throughout 2023-24, it has been suggested that United have already taken their decision over the manager's future.

  • WHAT TEN HAG SAID

Ten Hag was defiant in his press conference when asked about his future, saying: "If they don't want me any more, I go somewhere else and win trophies, that's what I've done my whole career."

He told BBC One: "I don’t know. The only thing I’m doing is preparing my team, developing my team. This is a project for me. When I came in I can say it was a mess. Now we are better. We are not where we want to be.

"Football is about winning trophies. I want to play the best football, dynamic, attacking football but in the end you have to win games and trophies. That’s the mentality we brought in. This was our one opportunity and we did it. I‘m very proud of the players and staff."

    WHAT NEXT?

Ten Hag, most likely, will be sat by the phone awaiting a decision. He could well be relieved of his duties - if the reports are true - by the end of next week.
