  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to ESPN,the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) remains intent on securing Ancelotti as the next head coach of the national team. Despite persistent uncertainties, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues has reportedly renewed his commitment to waiting for the Real Madrid manager, extending the timeframe for a decision. The latest extension gives Ancelotti time until Real Madrid is no longer in the race for the La Liga title, a decision tied closely to the Spanish club's current standing.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Barcelona currently sit atop the La Liga standings, maintaining a four-point lead over Los Blancos with just five fixtures left in the season. This situation has forced Brazil’s football governing body to reconsider its timeline, waiting to see whether Madrid can mount a comeback or if their title challenge fades away. Real Madrid’s next few matches — including a potentially decisive clash against league leaders Barcelona on May 11 — are being viewed as pivotal. Before El Clásico, the capital club will go up against Celta Vigo, followed by the remaining games against Mallorca, Sevilla, and Real Sociedad.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

While Ancelotti is still the top target for the CBF, contingency measures are quietly being explored. Names such as Jorge Jesus, currently in charge at Al Hilal, and Abel Ferreira of Palmeiras have reportedly surfaced in internal discussions. These alternatives are part of a broader strategy to ensure Brazil is not left scrambling should Ancelotti ultimately decline the offer.

    WHAT NEXT?

Ancelotti is currently under contract with Real Madrid through the summer of 2026. However, those close to both the club and the coach suggest that a mutual and respectful parting of ways could still be arranged, even if Madrid's domestic campaign ends in disappointment.

But time is running short. The CBF has a firm expectation: their new head coach must be ready to oversee the squad's call-up on May 26, in preparation for Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers, as they are set to face Ecuador and Paraguay as part of their journey to the 2026 tournament.
