    WHAT HAPPENED?

At the end of Feyenoord's 5-0 drubbing of PEC Zwolle, Slot was seen greeting fans in the stands of De Kuip, in what seemed like his final farewell with only one home game left for the Dutch side. Slot still maintains that he hasn't officially secured the role but said he will contact outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for advice about the Premier League side.

  • WHAT SLOT SAID

Speaking to the media, Slot said: "It looked like my farewell to the fans? I think I agree on that, that it looked like that. Because of all the rumours in the media, I think they are expecting me to leave. Yeah, that is something we could say.

“Will I join Liverpool? If the official confirmation is there and I’m 100% sure that I will go there, I don’t think I’ll only watch that game, I will watch a lot of games from them.

On Klopp's offer to guide Slot through the takeover: "I think it’s normal that if you go to a new club, and if that would be Liverpool, it is normal that you contact the former coach. I did this when I went to Feyenoord as well. It’s more than normal that, all the knowledge a person has that worked a few years at that club – and in his situation even nine years – that you contact him. Apart from that I know his assistant quite well, Pepijn Lijnders. But if there’s an official confirmation, when the season is done, it would be strange if I didn’t call him then."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Klopp has been the main man at Anfield for the last nine years and the Dutchman will have a tough task garnering the same kind of affection and respect from players and fans. It has been reported that Liverpool are set to pay compensation of €9 million plus €2m in add-ons (£9.4m/$11.8m) to Feyenoord to break Slot's current contract.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR SLOT?

The Dutchman still has two games to get through with a trip to NEC on May 12 before their last game of the season against Excelsior on May 19.
