The 19-year-old Ivorian joined Real Madrid for a base fee of €125 million, rising to a potential €140 million with bonuses, making him Leipzig's most expensive departure ever and one of the costliest transfers in Bundesliga history. After just one season and 13 goals in 36 appearances, losing Diomande is a significant blow to new head coach Martin Demichelis, who replaced Ole Werner this summer.

The club's attempts to reinvest quickly have hit walls. A deal for Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani, agreed at €25 million, collapsed at the medical stage, leaving Leipzig without their primary attacking target. They then made a late move for Wolfsburg's Dzenan Pejcinovic, but he had already agreed terms with VfB Stuttgart. According to reports cited by Foot Mercato, Leipzig have now reached a basic agreement with Diego Moreira of Racing Strasbourg as a direct Diomande replacement, though a fee gap between the clubs means a quick resolution looks unlikely.

There is also uncertainty over Antonio Nusa, with Roma reportedly willing to meet Leipzig's €60 million asking price for the Norwegian winger. Losing both Diomande and Nusa would strip the squad of its two most dangerous wide options ahead of the new season.

Leipzig face Bayern Munich in the Telekom Cup on August 15, their final pre-season test before a DFB-Pokal first-round trip to Eintracht Trier on August 22. With the squad still short in attack, that opener could arrive at an uncomfortable moment.
