Manchester City are getting used to Guardiola’s philosophy, says Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure believes Manchester City have started the adoption process of the philosophy which manager Pep Guardiola likes to play.

The Catalan manager who is well known for his love of fluid possession oriented brand of football has struggled to replicate this in his first season at the helm of affairs in the English Premier League.

But the former Ivory Coast international who won who won the Champions League and two La Liga titles in three years playing under Guardiola at the Nou Camp reckons that the players are finally buying into the manager’s ideology and want to win following that template.

The Citizens failed to win a single trophy last term but the midfielder is adamant they will do better this time around citing the unfamiliarity of the system as the reason for their botched season.

“The mentality of the manager is playing good and winning — not just winning,” Toure told club website.

“We want the fans to enjoy it and we try to do our best.

“At Barcelona, I was used to playing like that. I’m a type of player with a lot of experience.

“I am lucky because I used to play under Pep at Barcelona and I know what he wants.

“I think when the other players got their tactics off the manager and it was a little bit difficult for them.

“But now the core of the team are used to it and the incoming players need to adapt quick because this year is going to be tough.

“We don’t have any more time to learn. We have to do it as soon as possible and be sharp and ready to play.”
