Stuart Baxter: Belgium second division may not present Percy Tau with the challenge he wants

Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter feels Percy Tau might not benefit from his move to the Belgian second division in the long term.

The 24-year-old attacker signed for English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion before being loaned out to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for the current campaign.

“The main part is that we have to support Percy. The Belgium second division may not present him with the challenge that he wants in the long term," Baxter told the media on Tuesday.

"I am sure Percy being a great lad that he is, will approach this in a professional way and give it all he’s got,” said Baxter.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach said he had a chat with Chris Hughton of Brighton, and he is of the view that the English club wants Tau to get as many international caps as possible before recalling him from St

“I don’t think they are too concerned about where he plays to gain European experience. They just want him to bounce into Europe and then collect his international caps and be part of the Brighton squad," revealed Baxter.

The 2017/18 PSL Player of the Season has quickly found his feet with at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise despite joining the Belgian clubs a few weeks ago.

In his first start for Union Saint-Gilloise, Tau scored a beautiful lob goal in their 3-0 win over City Pirates on Saturday and his celebration with Nils Boueko suggest he has already made friends in Belgium.
