OFFICIAL: Maritzburg United appoint Mabhuti Khenyeza as assistant coach

Maritzburg United have announced the appointment of Mabhuti Khenyeza as the club's new assistant coach.

The position became vacant following the departure of Maahier Davids, who was serving under his older brother Fadlu Davids.

The club confirmed Khenyeza's arrival on their official Twitter account on Thursday morning.

"Maritzburg United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Mabhuti Khenyeza as an assistant coach to Muhsin Ertugral," a club statement read.

Khenyeza joins the the Team of Choice's technical team after announcing his retirement from professional football.

The 36-year-old, who terminated his contract with AmaZulu FC midway through the current campaign, has reunited with Muhsin Ertugral at Maritzburg.

"Becoming a coach is something I always wanted to pursue after my playing career," Khenyeza said.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker is pleased to have been given an opportunity to start his coaching career at Maritzburg.

"I have kept an eye on the club over the years, and I am really happy to start my journey here," he added.

Khenyeza worked with Ertugral at Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town during his playing days.

The Team of Choice are currently placed 16th on the league standings having accumulated only 11 points from 14 games.

The duo are expected to guide the team out of the relegation zone.

Maritzburg will take on their KwaZulu-Natal rivals Lamontville Golden Arrows away in their first league game of the year on Sunday.
