Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has shed lights on factors that led to the fall of former Caf president Issa Hayatou.
The 70-year-old, who ascended the throne in 1988, was running for a seventh term in office, but surprisingly lost to Madagascan football federation president Ahmad Ahmad.
Ahmad amassed 34 votes, 14 more than Hayatou, who won 20 votes.
“Ahmad Ahmad won against Issa Hayatou because he was a good candidate,” Nyantakyi said.
“He came with a message which most people supported and secondly, the wind of change that is blowing has been embraced worldwide including our world of football.
“Everyone thought that this was the time for change and nothing could have stopped it. All the candidates I campaigned for won with the exception of one and I'm very happy,” he added.
Nyantakyi was also re-elected to Fifa Council after picking 33 votes to defeat Tanzanian Leodegar Tenga, who claimed 20.
Goal understands that Nyantakyi could be named as first vice-president of Caf, following Ahmad's victory.
