No more cash for youth teams – Ghana FA prez

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed his outfit will no more present cash rewards to players of the national youth teams.

The new reform comes in the wake of public outcry following the presentation of a combined sum of $84,000 to player of the side that participated at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup in India in October.

The financial reward, protested as it were, was not new as that had been the norm over the years.

“We agree that we need to focus on the necessary things of life and for the young players (players of the national youth teams); these things are food, clothing, shelter and education,” Nyantakyi said, as reported by Ghana Web.

“We should move away from the practice of giving young players thousands of dollars.

“These boys tend to misuse the amounts of money given to them.”

Earlier this month, each player of the u-17 received a sum of $4000 for reaching the quarter final of the World Cup.

The side won three matches at the championship before bowing to African counterparts Mali in the last eight clash.
