Despite Kuala Lumpur's 2-0 defeat to Perak in their Group A Malaysia Cup match on Sunday, caretaker coach Yee Fatt Chong believes that his charges can still reach the knockout stages.

In the match that was held in Cheras, the Bos Gaurus' goals were scored by Jad Noureddine in the 40th minute, before Gilmar Filho sealed the visitors' win with his 63rd minute goal.

The result has put Kuala Lumpur in third place with three points in the four-team group, four behind leaders Terengganu FC and one behind Perak, and one point ahead of last-placed Felcra FC, with three rounds remaining in the group stage.

Speaking in the post match press conference, Yee, who takes over from Fabio Maciel who has been put on a gardening leave, said that the City Boys lost as they failed to perform as well as he had expected.

"The players did not support each other; they should've known better as Perak have quality. At the same time, our midfield did not function as well as I'd expected.

"I started with Farid Ramli as a midfielder because we've been facing injuries, and I hoped he could have done better. But unfortunately that did not happen," he commented.

When asked about the chances of his charges to go beyond the group stage, Yee expressed his belief.

"The competition is still open in the group. As long as we still have the chance, we will try hard to make it.

"Judging by the way we have been playing, I'm confident that we can advance," said the former assistant coach.
