Champions League Challenge Returns

For many fans the international break is a worrying time, especially when players returned with injuries. Liverpool’s walking wounded include Sadio Mane (hand), Naby Keita (hamstring), Mohamed Salah (muscle) and Virgil Van Dijk (rib). The first two missed Saturday’s game at Huddersfield but Salah and Van Dijk played. Manager Jurgen Klopp will hope they will all be available for Wednesday night’s game with Red Star Belgrade at Anfield. After losing at Napoli, the Reds will want a home victory. They are a very short 1.00 to win this one.

Man City defender Danilo was in tears when he was carried off the field with an ankle injury during Brazil’s win over Argentina and is unlikely to feature in their match at Shakhtar Donetsk. Otherwise, Pep Guardiola’s players look to have come through the international games unscathed and ready to pick back up where they left off. Despite having to travel to Ukraine, City are 1.29 to win.

All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, but Jose Mourinho will be hoping for a home win to silence the critics and boost United’s chances of progressing in the tournament. At 3.15 they may be worth a punt, although Juve are in tremendous form at the moment.

Tottenham are the worst performers among the four English clubs in the Champions League with no points from two games. Victor Wanyama is the only doubt, after pulling up with a hamstring problem in Kenya’s win over Ethiopia. Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted that there are no other injuries among his squad as they desperately need a win at PSV Eindhoven to keep their hopes of qualification for the knockout stages alive, with Inter Milan and Barcelona going head-to-head in the other game of the group. It’s not going to be easy for them to progress, but back them at 1.82 to win in the Netherlands.
