Broke AFC Leopards now turn to fans for help

AFC Leopards have turned to club fans to help the team navigate remaining leg of Kenyan Premier League.

Ingwe have openly revealed that they are currently facing a financial strain caused by high costs of operation and that they will organise for a fundraising in the next five weeks to help in financing club operations.

In a statement obtained by Goal and signed by secretary general Oscar Igaida, the club now requires Sh6million to navigate through the remainder of 2017 season.

"The club is currently facing a financial strain caused by high costs of operation and low gate collections. In the coming month, we have a congested league and cup engagements which would require a lot of spending to ensure we get reasonable results.

"From the current fixtures, we have seven matches in total for the month of August. As at July 31, 2017, we owe various parties a total of Sh17.5million accumulated over the last 2 years.

"Our obligations require an additional Sh6million to take us through the remainder of the season in addition to SportPesa sponsorship," revealed the statement.

Igaida confirmed that the steering committee of the fundraiser will incorporate NEC members, branch chairmen, club members and other stakeholders.

"We shall be contacting them in the course of the week and request that when you are called upon to volunteer as a member of the steering committee, you shall be willing to come on board. More information shall be shared after the initial meeting of the steering committee."

AFC Leopards are currently lying 13th on the league table and could face the axe if they don't start winning matches.
